Salam: Investment interest in Qlayaat Airport; border control and electoral integrity prioritized
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that tangible development projects will accompany his upcoming visit to northern Lebanon, revealing that work is underway on a master plan for Rene Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat, with several foreign companies expressing interest in investing.

During a meeting with Akkar’s Mufti, Sheikh Zaid Zakaria, and a regional delegation, Salam emphasized the need for elections, renewal, and accountability, while reaffirming firm directives to the army and security agencies to secure Lebanon’s borders. He also highlighted the importance of reopening legal border crossings with Syria, asserting that Syrian stability would enhance economic revival in the North.

Mufti Zakaria praised the government's electoral efforts and urged follow-up on Qlayaat’s operationalization and administrative appointments in Akkar. He also stressed that reopening legal crossings would ease social ties and justify a crackdown on illegal border routes.
