Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Hajjar announced that “the electoral process in the North and Akkar generally went well despite some difficulties that began on Saturday and continued on Sunday, particularly security incidents at some polling stations.”
In a press conference, Hajjar revealed that “the voter turnout in the North and Akkar was 43.29% overall, specifically 37.25% in the North and 49.33% in Akkar.”
He pointed out that “the number of complaints and appeals reached a total of 675, while around 143 security incidents and approximately 120 clashes and fights were recorded.” He added, “There are 7 detainees due to the altercations and 15 cases of bribery.”
Regarding the random gunfire, Hajjar said: “We gave instructions to the security forces to pursue and arrest those firing shots. A large number of names have been identified, and the army began raids since last night and arrested 34 individuals involved in gunfire,” stressing that “no one is allowed to possess a weapon without a permit.” He emphasized that “the government is committed to enforcing the state’s authority exclusively through its own forces across all Lebanese territories, and this is currently being implemented by the President and the government.”
Commenting on the incident with North Governor Ramzi Nohra, Hajjar clarified that “there was a complaint regarding his behavior, and I was about to respond to it when Nohra intervened to defend himself. I had no intention of insulting him, but I politely asked him to give me space to respond.”
