Watch: Salam Calls for a New Chapter for Lebanon at the Arab Summit
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, speaking at the Arab Summit in Baghdad, stated that Lebanon has opened a new chapter in its history by asserting full state sovereignty over its entire territory, confining weapons solely to the state’s control, and holding the authority over decisions of war and peace.

Salam added that the Lebanese state is committed to fully implementing UN Resolution 1701, out of respect for international legitimacy and the goal of reconstruction. He called for international pressure on Israel to withdraw from Lebanese lands.

He also emphasized that Lebanon continues to suffer from the Israeli occupation, daily violations, and the refusal to release prisoners. Salam noted that the absence of accountability encourages the Israeli enemy to persist in its violations.

Salam expressed Lebanon’s readiness to cooperate with Syria to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their safe villages, while striving to secure the borders and prevent smuggling. He considered that lifting sanctions on Syria would positively affect Lebanon.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Salam reaffirmed Lebanon’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in reclaiming their rights and rejected any proposals involving their displacement or resettlement.
