Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Bou Saab welcomed French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, at Parliament, accompanied by French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro, and a delegation.
MP Georges Adwan, Chair of the Administration and Justice Committee, also attended the meeting.
Le Drian highlighted the current parliamentary momentum as crucial, noting that Lebanon has a unique opportunity not only to restore internal cohesion but also to improve its international image and regain global trust. He stressed the urgency of passing key reform laws, stating that France bears responsibility in convening an international conference and rallying donor nations once these laws are enacted.
Bou Saab noted that Speaker Nabih Berri had called for an extraordinary legislative session to expedite reform bills. He said Parliament is still awaiting the government’s draft law on the financial gap, which must accompany the banking sector restructuring bill. Other laws under review include electoral reform and the Ocean Treaty.
Bou Saab also requested international pressure, particularly from France and the United States, as guarantors of the ceasefire, to ensure Israel respects its obligations.
