Aoun meets new UNIFIL Commander, reaffirms commitment to resolution 1701
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun welcomed the newly appointed commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Diodato Abagnara, at the presidential palace.

During the meeting, President Aoun underscored the importance of UNIFIL’s continued coordination with the Lebanese Army in South Lebanon to fully implement the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He emphasized the need for Israeli forces to withdraw from the five occupied hills in order to enable the Lebanese Army to complete its deployment along the internationally recognized borders.

Separately, President Aoun also met with the Superior General of the Lebanese Maronite Order, Abbot Hady Mahfouz, who extended an invitation to attend the celebratory Mass marking the Feast of Saint Charbel on July 20 at the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya. Abbot Mahfouz also briefed the president on preparations for the launch of the first phase of the “Saint Charbel Trail” project.
