President of the President, General Joseph Aoun, welcomed at Baabda palace, a European delegation, headed by the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra De Waele, and ambassadors of the EU member states.
President Joseph Aoun called on the European Union to support Lebanon in regaining all of its territory and extending state sovereignty over it, and to launch a comprehensive initiative to support the Lebanese Army by all available means. President Aoun said, "The absence of the Lebanese Army could lead to a significant decline in the security situation, which would negatively impact the entire region, something no one wants."
President Aoun also called on the European Union to lift any European sanctions imposed on Lebanon, and work to hold a European-Arab conference aimed at rebuilding Lebanon and revitalizing its economy, in parallel with its path towards full security and military sovereignty.
Aoun also indicated that "the banking restructuring law is in its advanced stages at the House of Parliament," expressing hope that it will be quickly approved by the end of this month. "We are working in a high-level, focused group to put the final touches on the financial gap law," President Aoun said.
Aoun added, "In light of the stabilized situation in some Syrian regions, it is fair and necessary to begin facilitating the safe, dignified, and coordinated return of displaced persons." He also highlighted the very good cooperation regarding the security situation on the Lebanese-Syrian border.
