Justice Minister: Government planned to disarm Hezbollah before US proposal
In an interview, Lebanese Justice Minister Adel Nassar revealed that the Lebanese government had already been working on a plan to disarm Hezbollah before the recent US initiative.

He emphasized that any arms outside official state institutions are unconstitutional and illegal, calling this a legal fact, not an opinion.

Responding to Hezbollah’s claim that disarmament equals suicide, Nassar said true suicide lies in unilateral decisions that led to deadly conflicts.

The minister stressed that the state remains the only guarantor for all, noting that regional changes demand collective caution.

Nassar added that Hezbollah cannot view surrendering its arms as suicide, especially after agreeing to the ministerial statement. “A government partner can’t tell the state to ‘go sink in the sea.’ Partners must build the state, not block it,” he said, affirming no political side seeks conflict with the Lebanese Army.
