President of the Republic Joseph Aoun reaffirmed Lebanon's renewed presence on the international stage during a meeting at the Baabda Palace with eight Lebanese ambassadors appointed to missions abroad, just prior to their departure to their respective embassies.
The President noted, "Lebanon has regained its place on the global map after a prolonged absence, and this is something I consistently feel through my visits abroad and the meetings I hold in Lebanon with officials and diplomats from various countries."
Addressing the ambassadors, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Ambassador Abdel-Sattar Issa, President Aoun stated, "You face great responsibilities, foremost among them being ambassadors of a unified Lebanon, a nation that embraces all its components without sectarian, confessional, or partisan discrimination. Work for the benefit of your country, which must always come first."
Aoun added, "Lebanon has faced difficult circumstances in recent years, during which the work of most Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad faltered, and some embassies suffered from vacancies that lasted for years. Now, with the restoration of constitutional institutions and the new diplomatic appointments, you must return the embassies under your leadership to an active presence in the countries to which you are assigned, to enhance and develop Lebanon's relationships and to support Lebanese nationals, especially those of Lebanese descent, particularly in the diaspora."
President Aoun further emphasized that Lebanese embassies abroad should serve as "the natural entry point for official and unofficial visits by personalities from the countries to which you are assigned, as protocol dictates. Any bypassing of Lebanese ambassadors by any Lebanese entity, official or non-official, is unacceptable, especially after Lebanon has regained its presence abroad and activated all its diplomatic missions."
Ambassador Issa thanked President Aoun for the trust placed in the newly appointed ambassadors by the Lebanese government, stressing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work as a unified team, both in Lebanon and abroad, to provide the best possible performance for the benefit of Lebanon.
The ambassadors, in turn, affirmed their commitment to strengthening Lebanon's relations with the countries where they have been assigned and to implementing the directives provided to them.
Among those present were Ambassador Caroline Jazar, head of Lebanon’s permanent mission to international organizations in Geneva; Ambassador Carla Jazar to Italy; Ambassador Fadi Assaf to the Vatican; Ambassador Hadi Jaber to India; Ambassador Elias Nicola to Brazil; Ambassador Hadi Hashem to Bahrain; Ambassador Abdul Aziz Issa to Pakistan; and Ambassador Munir Anouti to Turkey.
President Aoun also met with Ambassador Issa, who recently assumed his role as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, providing him with guidance and wishing him success in his new responsibilities.
In other diplomatic news, President Aoun received a farewell visit from the outgoing Malaysian Ambassador, Dato Azri bin Yacob, who is concluding his mission in Lebanon to take up a new diplomatic post. President Aoun thanked the ambassador for his efforts to strengthen Lebanese-Malaysian relations during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors.
President Aoun also met with the French Ambassador, Hervé Magro, for a briefing on recent developments and bilateral relations, particularly in light of the upcoming United Nations meetings in New York.
Furthermore, President Aoun hosted Sang Ho Jeon, Referee Chairman for the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) Committee, alongside Lebanese Taekwondo Federation President Habib Zareefa. Jeon presented humanitarian aid to Lebanon in collaboration with the GLOBAL LIFE SHARING organization, focusing on medical assistance. He expressed his hopes for continued cooperation between the two nations in both human and cultural fields.
President Aoun thanked Jeon for his initiative, highlighting the significant support Lebanon has received from the Republic of Korea, including in the form of humanitarian aid and the participation of Korean forces in UNIFIL peacekeeping operations in southern Lebanon. He also urged coordination with the Ministry of Health regarding the delivery of medical aid, expressing gratitude for the upcoming shipment, which will be directed to the Lebanese Army.
