Tension flared in the border town of Al-Mashrafah between Lebanon and Syria after an armed dispute broke out between Lebanese national A. G. al-Hajj Hassan and members of a Syrian military unit responsible for monitoring the frontier. The confrontation quickly escalated into an exchange of heavy gunfire, leaving al-Hajj Hassan wounded.

According to An-Nahar, the clash began over disagreements related to illegal border crossings, which rapidly turned into an armed skirmish involving automatic weapons.

Lebanese Army units and Military Intelligence personnel were deployed to the area, setting up a security perimeter and conducting patrols to restore calm and prevent the fighting from spreading.
