The Public Relations and Media Officer of the Palestinian National Security Forces in Lebanon, Lt. Col. Abdel Hadi Al-Asadi, commented on the killing of Elio-Ernesto Abou Hanna, telling MTV: “What happened was that the joint security force in the Shatila camp had set up checkpoints inside the camp following army measures aimed at curbing lawlessness. As the late Elio Abou Hanna was passing by, he was surprised by the checkpoint and did not stop, driving quickly instead. One of the members opened fire, injuring him, and his car crashed into the entrance of a house.”
Al-Asadi added: “Major General Abdel Ibrahim Khalil immediately decided to form an investigation committee composed of senior officers, fully coordinating with Lebanese Army Intelligence to uncover the truth, determine responsibility, and take necessary measures, including handing over any personnel requested by the army for its investigation.”
He affirmed to MTV that everyone is under the authority of Lebanese law and the judiciary, extending, on behalf of the Palestinian leadership, his deepest condolences to the victim’s family.
