Geagea Warns of Elevated Risk of New Israeli Strikes
Head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, warned that "the risk of a new Israeli strike campaign is very high."

Geagea said: "This agreement was reached because Hezbollah wanted to end the war, while Israel aimed to achieve disarmament. However, Hezbollah took a Lebanese-style approach and did not fulfill its commitments. What is even more unfortunate is that all of Lebanon’s traditional allies, France, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab countries, have made it clear that they are unable to pressure Israel as long as Hezbollah does not comply."

In an interview with the French newspaper "Le Figaro" about Israeli violations, Geagea responded: "If Israel still occupies these five points, it is because it wants to disarm Hezbollah. Historically, we have no border dispute with Israel. After the 1949 armistice agreement, Lebanon was the only Arab country to have stable, official international borders with Israel."

He added: "Later, Lebanon aligned its position with the Arab consensus regarding the pursuit of the desired peace."

When asked about Lebanon’s complex and often tense relationship with Syria and whether President Ahmad Al-Sharaa inspires confidence, an official responded, “I don’t know him personally, but so far, I have no negative remarks about his political positions.”

He noted that over the past year, relations between Lebanon and Syria have significantly improved. “Issues that were once considered off-limits, such as the border dispute, are now openly discussed,” he added.

Despite this progress, the official cautioned that Syria remains far from achieving lasting stability. “The situation is moving in the right direction, but Syria is not yet stable and remains distant from steady peace,” he concluded.
