Former President General Emile Lahoud believed that "the importance of the historic visit made by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon lies in the fact that it was filled with peace, hope and humanity, especially when we see this direct link between the Lebanese, from different sects, and the head of the Catholic Church, from the moment of his arrival at the airport through all the stops."
Lahoud said in a statement that everyone welcomed the Pope because they know how much he loves Lebanon, noting that this is an example for all officials to follow suit in loving their people just as His Holiness does.
"In addition to the spiritual nature of the visit, it comes at a time when our homeland is subjected to continuous attacks, not to mention the covetousness of its land," Lahoud went on.
"His Holiness’s visit was a sign of solidarity with this homeland and its suffering people, and an affirmation that this land will remain for its people and not for the tyrants, extremists, and oppressors who want to change history and identity," he added, stressing that, "even if they are possessed at this moment by illusions, they will be shattered as many others have been shattered throughout history, so that the people of faith, will, and truth will prevail.”
