President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Bou Saab at Baabda Palace.
Following the meeting, Bou Saab said that reports about appointing ambassadors other than Ambassador Simon Karam to the Mechanism committee are “media speculation,” stressing that no request was made to add other names. He noted that the President’s cooperation with the committee through Ambassador Karam is “reassuring, comfortable, and more than satisfactory.”
Bou Saab added that discussions also addressed the upcoming parliamentary elections and the obstacles facing them, warning that political bickering and confrontation do not lead to holding elections. He said that an electoral law cannot be approved without political consensus, pointing to a tendency to reopen deadlines, which would in any case result in a technical postponement of the elections.
