President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, welcomed the American-French-Saudi agreement announced in Paris yesterday to hold a special international conference to support the Lebanese army and internal security forces, expressing his "deep appreciation for this initiative, which comes at a time when Lebanon needs the support of the international community to strengthen its security and defense institutions."
President Aoun said, “The Lebanese army, the Internal Security Forces, and other security forces represent the primary guarantee for Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty. Supporting them constitutes an investment in Lebanon’s stability and future, and in its ability to extend its sovereignty across all its territory and protect its borders.”
The President added, “We highly value the leading role of the United States of America, France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in this endeavor, and we look forward to broad international cooperation at this conference to provide the necessary support to modernize the capabilities of the Lebanese army and security services and enhance their readiness.”
Thhe Head of State affirmed, "We are committed to utilizing this support with the utmost transparency and responsibility, to build strong and modern security and defense institutions capable of protecting Lebanon and contributing to the establishment of security and stability."
President Aoun concluded: "Lebanon looks with great hope to this conference as a fundamental step on the path to rebuilding the state, strengthening its sovereignty, and restoring its regional and international role."
On the other hand, President Aoun chaired a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, Minister of Justice Attorney Adel Nassar, Public Prosecutor Judge Khaled Hajjar, Military Prosecutor Judge Claude Ghanem, as well as Judges Mona Hanqir and Raja Abi Nader, which was dedicated to discussing the course of Lebanese-Syrian contacs in the field of addressing the conditions of Syrian prisoners in Lebanon.
President Aoun also received Catholicos Aram I Keshishian of the Armenian Orthodox Church, in the presence of Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Noura Bayrakdarian, who came on a congratulatory visit on the occasion of the holy holidays.
The visit was an opportunity to discuss the general situation and the conditions of the Armenian community and the Lebanese Armenians in Lebanon.
Additionally, President Aoun also met at Baabda Palace with Minister of Youth and Sports Bayrakdarian and the President of the International Centre for Sport Security in Qatar, Mahmoud Hanzab, who briefed him on the existing cooperation between the Ministry and the Centre, and on the project to organize an international conference to be hosted by Lebanon under the title “Sports, Development and Peace” in the presence of a number of heads of state and international political and sports figures in spring 2026. The discussion also touched on other sports projects in cooperation between the two countries.
