MoPWT says storm response prevented flooding
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport said it closely monitored the recent rainstorm, which brought heavy rainfall approaching 100 millimeters in a short period, through full field readiness and the continuous deployment of emergency teams across the country.

In a statement, the ministry said that areas historically classified as flood hotspots recorded no incidents thanks to preventive measures and rapid intervention. Limited water accumulation was handled immediately, with no damage or traffic disruptions reported.

The ministry noted that a single problem was recorded on the Chekka highway, where a completed technical report showed that the cause was encroachments on the road’s side drainage channel, leading to restricted water flow and rising levels, compounded by runoff during intense rainfall. Ministry teams addressed the situation on site, and follow-up measures are underway to hold those responsible accountable.

Elsewhere, landslides and collapses were reported in several areas, including Btghrine–Baskinta, Ain Aalak on the Antelias–Bikfaya road, Dahr El Baidar, and Massa–Janta, attributed to the storm’s severity and natural factors. Immediate intervention and technical assessments were carried out under the directives of Minister of Public Works Fayez Rasamny.

The ministry is also following up on the road collapse along the Bourj Rahhal–Ain Abou Abdallah (Sidon–Tyre) axis, where emergency recommendations were implemented pending permanent remediation. It said the incident was caused by illegal excavation by a neighboring landowner, with a similar case under treatment in Qaa al-Reem–Zahle.

The ministry reaffirmed it would pursue and hold accountable anyone found responsible for illegal acts that endanger public safety, stressing its continued readiness and rapid response to protect citizens and infrastructure.
