The Ministry of Agriculture is following up on the impact of the recent weather conditions in the Akkar region, where heavy rainfall caused flooding that inundated large areas of agricultural plains, resulting in direct damage to farming infrastructure, plastic greenhouses, vegetable fields, and seasonal crops.
In a rapid move to support affected farmers, Nizar Hani, Minister of Agriculture, instructed the Akkar regional agricultural service to implement a series of urgent measures. These include conducting immediate field assessments to evaluate the extent of damage to farmland, greenhouses, seedlings, and crops, and preparing a preliminary report within 72 hours to be submitted to the Directorate General for appropriate action.
The minister also ordered the activation of agricultural engineers and technicians to provide emergency guidance and preventive advice, and called for coordination with municipalities and municipal federations to facilitate surveys and support operations in the affected areas.
Hani stressed that the ministry will continue to stand by farmers in Akkar and across Lebanon to address the effects of climate change and crises impacting food security and the rural economy, while maintaining support programs and direct follow-up to protect agricultural production and limit losses.
