Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page that a phone call took place between Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
According to the ministry’s official spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and longstanding support for Lebanon, stressing respect for its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as the extension of the Lebanese state’s authority over all its territory. He underscored Egypt’s support for Lebanese national institutions in fully assuming their responsibilities to safeguard Lebanon’s security and stability in a manner that serves the interests of the Lebanese people.
Abdelatty also expressed appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the Lebanese state to assert its authority nationwide, welcoming the announcement of the completion of the first phase of the plan to restrict weapons to state authority south of the Litani River, describing it as a step that reflects a clear commitment to strengthening state sovereignty and the role of its legitimate institutions.
Abdelatty further reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity, stressing the need for full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, including the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces and an end to all violations of Lebanese sovereignty. Abdelatty also rejected any attempts at military escalation that could undermine Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.
