Salam Breaks Silence on Customs Appointments

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam wrote on X:

I have listened carefully to the voices opposing the recent appointments in Customs. I would like to express my full understanding of the feelings of concern, especially among the families of the martyrs and victims of the Beirut port explosion. I reaffirm to them that my commitment to uncovering the full truth in this case is irreversible, and that no one will be protected at the expense of the law.

I also wish to stress that the presumption of innocence is a fundamental pillar of justice. This means that, in the absence of a judicial ruling against any individual, they are entitled to exercise their full rights, including appointment to public administration posts.

However, this cannot serve as cover for anyone. The judiciary must be allowed to complete its work with full independence, so that when rulings are issued, they are acted upon accordingly, and those who must be held accountable are held to account, regardless of the position they occupy.
