Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin are gradually being affected by a low pressure system originating from the Black Sea, accompanied by cold air masses that will lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures. The system will bring at times heavy rainfall, snowfall over the mountains, thunderstorms and strong winds. Its impact is expected to continue until midday on Monday, after which it will gradually ease, leaving behind frost and icy conditions in mountainous and inland areas.
A warning is in place for heavy rainfall on Sunday and for the formation of ice on mountainous and inland roads starting Sunday night into Monday.
Expected weather in Lebanon:
Saturday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with fog over the mountains and a slight drop in temperatures, falling below seasonal averages. Scattered rain is expected from the afternoon, becoming heavier at times overnight with thunderstorms and strong winds. Snowfall is expected at elevations of 1,700 meters and above.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with dense fog over the mountains and poor visibility. Temperatures will continue to drop, with scattered rainfall that may be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and possible hail. Winds will be active, and snowfall is expected during the day at elevations of 1,600 meters, lowering at night to around 1,300 meters, especially in northern highlands.
Monday: Partly cloudy with a noticeable drop in temperatures and fog over the mountains. Scattered rain is expected, with light snowfall at elevations of around 1,100 meters in the morning. Weather conditions will gradually improve from the afternoon, with cold northerly winds. A warning remains in place for icy conditions and slippery roads in mountainous and inland areas above 1,000 meters overnight and during early morning hours.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy and cold due to the influence of northerly winds, which may become active at times, reaching speeds of up to 45 km/h. The risk of ice formation on mountainous and inland roads remains, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours above 1,200 meters.
