Public Transport Unions Call for Large Rally Tomorrow
Public transport unions called for a broad mobilization in Martyrs’ Square and Riad Al-Solh Square at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday.

The head of the Land Transport Unions and Syndicates, Bassam Tlais, said: “We are going all the way in confronting the government’s decisions to secure citizens’ interests, and the next steps will be announced tomorrow from Riad Al-Solh Square,” expressing hope that “this movement will be confined to Martyrs’ Square at 10:30 am.”

He also called on the security forces to “monitor the movements to prevent the infiltration of any disruptive elements and the spread of chaos.” He added that “there will be three starting points for the movement: Dora, Tayouneh roundabout, and the Kuwaiti Embassy, heading to Riad Al-Solh.”

Tlais said: “Unfortunately, the current government has chosen the taxation option to raise salaries, and this is a way of deceiving people,” noting that “the pricing schedule at the Energy Ministry appears to have been printed a day before the decision was issued, and people are not naive.”

He also called on all public transport drivers not to manipulate fares before any official decision is issued, stressing that the public bears no responsibility.
