Morcos: Cabinet Advances Revenue Reform, Steps Up Anti-Evasion Measures
Information Minister Paul Morcos announced that the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, approved most items on its 29-point agenda, with discussions centering on strengthening public revenues and intensifying efforts against tax and customs evasion.

Morcos said the Prime Minister stressed strict enforcement against all forms of evasion, noting that several files have been referred to the judiciary and that measures are being taken against delinquent taxpayers. The Finance Minister presented detailed figures on improved collection, highlighting expanded electronic filing, updated systems, and enhanced customs controls, including scanner installations that have significantly curbed smuggling and underreporting.

Public Works Minister, Fayez Rasamny, outlined preparatory steps to conduct a comprehensive review of violations on maritime public property, while the Environment Minister addressed quarry and crusher revenues.

The Cabinet also approved a draft law aimed at stimulating investment, endorsed a national strategy on the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities, and agreed to form a committee to prepare a comprehensive plan regulating children’s internet use. Other routine items were approved, while some were deferred.
