Sources to MTV affirmed that a phone call was held yesterday between President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during which they agreed to postpone the tripartite meeting that had been scheduled for today due to the Israeli escalation and possibly other political considerations.
The sources added that Berri may still be hesitant, for now, to participate in the meeting at Baabda out of concern that any resulting decision could place him in an awkward position. They also pointed to ongoing coordination between Lebanon and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut regarding both the tripartite meeting and the negotiations.
As for Israeli reports claiming President Aoun’s life is in danger, the sources said the matter is being taken seriously at Baabda Palace, but that does not mean the president is considering any retreat.
