Judge Nawaf Salam Elected President of International Court of Justice
Judge Nawaf Salam has been elected as the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for a three-year term.

The Court announced his election, stating that he was chosen by his peers. President Salam has been a Member of the Court since February 6, 2018.

This makes him the second Arab to head the court since its establishment in 1945, following former Algerian Foreign Minister and President of the Constitutional Court Mohamed Bedjaoui.

Prior to joining the ICJ, he served as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York from July 2007 to December 2017.
