Lebanese Kataeb praises security plan in Dahiyeh, labels it as an "encouraging start"

The Lebanese Kataeb party praised on Monday the deployment of state security forces Beirut’s southern suburbs, deeming it as a “first step and an encouraging start” to end both the implicit and explicit forms of self-security.

In a statement issued following its weekly meeting, the party’s politburo called for protecting the road leading to the Beirut International Airport and doubling efforts to grant the release of Syrian bishops Boulos al-Yaziji and Youhanna Ibrahim, the Lebanese citizens who were abducted in Aazaz and the two Turkish nationals.

“…This would foster trust in military and security agencies and wipe out the circumstances that drove some Arab and foreign countries to prevent their citizens from traveling to Lebanon,” the statement said.

The politburo called for a “national and responsible stance” in order to make the international  conference to help it succeed, proposing a series of beneficial measures to be sought by the Lebanese delegation taking part in it.

The proposed measures included controlling the border and the legitimate and illegitimate crossings, addressing the problem posed by the numbers of refugees flooding to Lebanon, limiting the presence of refugees to specific locations near the Lebanese-Syrian border, and conducting an accurate survey of their numbers.

In this context, the politburo called for an “international and coordinated support” for Lebanon to handle the repercussions entailed by the massive Syrian refugees’ influx, notably in the sectors of infrastructure, health and education.
