Few minutes after news broke out reporting Marwan Dimashkiyyeh’s killing, comments went viral on the Internet, claiming that the slain man is the author of a provocative parody song attacking Hezbollah over its ongoing fighting in Syria’s Yabrud.
Dimashkiyyeh, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the song “Dig your own grave in Yabrud," was found Tuesday in his car with a single bullet wound to his head.
The song was written as a satirical imitation of another one entitled “Declare victory in Yabrud,” sang by Ali Barakat, a supporter of Hezbollah who also records religious chants.
Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya mourned Dimashkiyyeh as one of its partisans, denying his alleged link to said parody.
Although Dimashkiyyeh’s killer is still unidentified and his purported link to the parody song is still unconfirmed, slogans chanted during his funeral procession at Beirut’s Khashikji mosque have drawn questions on whether his killing was actually politically driven.
