Feltman to Annahar: May 2008 will not happen again

United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey D. Feltman stated that the burden Lebanon is carrying having generously played host to a large number of Syrian refugees is extensive, noting that the credit goes to the Lebanese people for preserving the country’s stability, unity and security despite all risks.

In remarks published in Annahar newspaper Thursday, Feltman voiced concern over the presidential void in Lebanon, ruling out the possibility of Lebanon facing what it had faced in 2008.

“The Lebanese learned from their mistakes in May 2008 and everyone known the risks of trying to force a decision in Lebanon,” he said, adding that he doesn’t know how the situation will be handled but it certain it will not be similar to the drastic steps taken in 2008.
