With the parliamentary and presidential elections set to be held in the coming month of August, turmoil is set to hit Lebanon at the core, said parliamentary sources.
Al-Anba’ daily noted that Speaker of the House Nabih Berri has become fully convinced that the presidential elections are still nowhere to be held in the near future, calling all figureheads to cooperate so as to avoid additional state-vacancy. The Speaker voiced concern as to the inflexibility of certain political fronts to hold parliamentary elections while other push for presidential elections, which could lead to the obstruction of all decision-making procedures. Hence, the outcome of such a situation would either be the election per se or extension.
Sources considered extension as very likely as preparing for the elections does not necessarily mean holding them in due time, despite parliamentary blocs’ endeavors to cast their ballots.
