Lebanon's Maronites Lost Their Minds, Vatican Says

"The practices of Maronite officials in Lebanon will eventually topple Christians' presence in Lebanon and the region", these words are not publicly said by Vatican officials but their echoes are heard by Maronite figures who visit Vatican frequently.

"Dispersion of Christians between Sunnis and Shiites will make them lose their role in Lebanon and the Middle East," knowledgeable sources quoted circles from the Vatican as saying.

According to Assafir daily, the Vatican officials are fed up with the Lebanese Maronites who are not seeing matters clearly.

"Maronites still occupy top posts in Lebanon, such as the presidency, Army Command and the Central Bank's governance, but their spite and obsession with power has made them lose their minds," the sources added.

The wrath of Vatican officials prompted them to use harsh expressions towards Maronite politicians who are not assuming their responsibility; therefore the Vatican will refrain from proposing solutions so as to put term to the presidential stalemate "because the Maronite leaders refuse to listen to advices."

"What's the point of the Christians' presence if they will only serve the plans of others instead of seeking to fulfill national plans? Why should they act as slaves of regional projects?" the sources wondered.

"If they fail to play their role as a bridge between Lebanese parties and to help facilitating the state institutions' functioning,  then they better off leave the region," they affirmed.

According to the cited circles, the solution lies in reaching an inter-Christian agreement over a president who garners the support of all Lebanese factions, stressing that the head of state should enjoy strong representation at parliament and be capable of reaching an understanding among Christian and Muslim lawmakers.
