Clashes that took place recently in Arsal didn't only claim the lives of several Army soldiers, but also took its toll on the ties between Lebanese Army Commander Jean Qahwaji and the head of the Commando Regiment Shamel Roukoz.
Ties grew tenser between the two men throughout the last two weeks as Qahwaji threatened to topple and discharge Roukoz from his post. Discrepancies have widened in light of Roukoz's management of Arsal's, in addition to the popular support that the Commando Regiment's leader had garnered on social media. Tensions have also exacerbated following critics addressed by Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) loyalists against Qahwaji.
LAF Commander seized the chance to check up on MP Michel Aoun, who had suffered from a shoulder fracture, at Serhal Hospital as an initiative to mend fences between both men.
MTV website has learned that Qahawaji re-visited Aoun at his Rabieh residence earlier today. The meeting featured high on the ties between Qahwaji and Roukoz, who is also Aoun's son-in-law. No further details about the talks were disclosed until this report was written.
It is worth mentioning that the meeting was confidential as even Aoun's cronies didn't have prior knowledge, especially that Qahwaji headed to Rabieh without a convoy.
