Sleiman fires back at Aoun over extension of officers' term

Former President Michel Sleiman deplored the ongoing failure to elect a president, saying that some blocs are premeditatedly boycotting the voting sessions despite the non-stop statements that pretend to me rejecting vacuum.

In a statement issued following a meeting with Ministers Samir Mokbel, Alice Chobtini and Abdul-Mottaleb Hennaoui, Sleiman stressed the need to maintain the functioning of security agencies, defending the postponement of Maj. Gen. Mohammad Kheir’s retirement.

“Away from political stances, the most appropriate way to revoke confidence in a minister is to abide by the Constitution, take part in the election of a president, form a new government and secure the holding of parliamentary polls,” the statement concluded.
