A groom in China attempted suicide after finding his bride completely unattractive.

He jumped into a lake in the city of Shiyan in the central Hubei province. Rescue workers and police officers were called in after receiving calls of a person drowning in the lake.

According to the People's Daily Online, the would-be groom was discovered floating face down in the lake but was pulled from the water alive and is expected to make a full recovery.

The man alleged that he was being forced to get married to the girl whom he found 'ugly looking at the very first instance.

Kang Hu, 33, apologised to bride Na Sung, 30, telling her that she was 'too ugly' to marry. After saying this, he went out of the wedding hall straight to jump into the river.

 "My parents had arranged this and I couldn't see any way out apart from suicide," he disclosed.
