Mother, Daughter Share Classroom during Official Exams

Samiha al-Sayegh, 38, sat next to her daughter Mariam in a large hall at the National Orthodox Secondary School where students are sitting for their official exams.

Al-Sayegh’s ambition drove her to apply for the exams and was assisted by her daughter who was already studying for her own tests.

Samiha and her daughter ended up taking their exams in the same classroom under the watchful eye of the proctors.

Education Ministry Official Nahla Hamati who had visited the school to check-up on the students hailed Samiha’s courage and determination to pursue her education.

Al-Sayegh’s living situation wasn’t favorable as she grew up, rendering her unable to finish school. She was bust with engagement, marriage, building a home and children.

She, however, never gave up and knew that she’d someday be able to make her dream come true.

She was encouraged by her husband Mr. Ahmad al-Sayegh and according to al-Safir newspaper, received help from her daughter to prepare for the exams.

The students sitting in the same classroom were shocked yet inspired by Samiha’s courage.

“Education is an endless sea,” Samiha said, stressing that she will be enrolling at the Lebanese University once she passes her official exams.
