Humanity pays great importance to how we name our offspring. But for some parents, simply choosing a name from a list is not creative enough. They prefer inventing their own baby names - here are some of the weirder examples.

1 - Putin

An Egyptian journalist decided to call his son Putin, using the Russian president's surname as a given name for the child.

2 - Audio Science

Actress Shannyn Sossamon decided to name her son Audio Science.

3 - Hashtag

In 2012 a UK mom called her baby girl Hashtag after the sign used for grouping online information by specific theme or content.

You probably want to know if this has already become reality given that Google, Hashtag and Like are all real. But no, an attempt was made in China, but the parents' plea was rejected by the registry office. Nice try, though.

5 - Facebook

Young father Gamal Ibrahim chose to call his newborn girl Facebook honouring the role the social media site played in the Arab Spring.

6 - Google

In 2005, Google’s official blog ran a photo of a newborn baby from Sweden who was named Oliver Google Kai.

7 - Like

In 2011 the Adler parents from Israel named their daughter Like - inspired by the Facebook way of showing appreciation.

8 - Tu Morrow

Actor Rob Morrow named his daughter Tu giving her the full name Tu Morrow.

9 - Pilot Inspektor

Actor Jason Lee states his son's name, Pilot Inspektor, was inspired by a song "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot" by rock band Grandaddy.

10 - Espn

A US couple settled on the name Espn (pronounced Espen) after the cable television company. There are already several Espns in the United States.
