Demi Lovato apologized for 'offending anyone' after she shared a story about pranking her body guard elicited critics.
The Sorry Not Sorry singer hosted a Q&A on Twitter with fans, when one of them asked about the funniest prank she ever pulled.
She answered:
"I hired a lady of the night in Vegas and sent her to Max' hotel room to surprise him. She walked into his room without permission and grabbed him in his 'area' and he freaked the fuck out hahahahaha."
The tweet received mixed responses from fans, with some bringing up issues of consent.
One Twitter user said:
"You can't be a poster woman for being a warrior and survivor and then publicly laugh at arranging a sexual assault on your bodyguard and then throw a fit and then follow it with a pathetic attempt at an apology. Like.... wut? Grow up. #demilovato"
Another user said:
"I find it disgusting how Demi Lovato joked about hiring a woman to grope her bodyguard without his consent and acted like it was a "prank". Imagine if the situation was reversed and a woman was grabbed without her consent. Sexual assault is never funny, no matter the gender."
Following the onslaught, Lovato deleted the initial tweet and said:
"I swear I could tweet something about craving jelly beans and it would offend someone.
"For all of those coming at me rn, listen to the lyrics of Warrior and maybe you'll have more compassion for someone who made a simple mistake. Of all people I know about sexual abuse. You don't have to educate me.
"So sorry if anyone was offended."
