MP Sethrida Geagea staunchly criticized on Saturday President Donald Trump's comments that it was time to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.
In a statement published by MP Sethrida Geagea's Media Bureau it said that "the position of the American president has ruled out any possibility of bringing peace to the region because peace requires the withdrawal of Israel from the occupied territories."
"The American position is in stark contrast to international resolutions, especially resolutions 242 and 497 of 1981, which rejected the Israeli decision at that time to annex the Golan to Israel and considered it null and void," the communiqué added.
"... The first step to end this [Arab-Israeli] conflict is to return the occupied territories to the Arabs, especially in occupied Palestine," the statement concluded.
