A tragic accident early this morning on the Dbayeh highway heading toward Beirut took the lives of three people after two motorcycles collided with overturned vehicles in the middle of the road.
The incident occurred near the Royal Hotel area when two cars were involved in a prior crash, causing one of them to flip and come to rest upside down in the center of the highway. With no warning signs or sufficient lighting, the wreckage posed a sudden and dangerous obstacle to oncoming traffic.
Shortly after, two motorcycles traveling in the same direction struck the overturned vehicles. The first was driven by Saad Abdel Karim from Chekka, Batroun, while the second was driven by Rawad Baaino, a Lebanese Army member from the North, and Aya Ajour, a Beirut resident. All three were killed instantly due to the force of the impact.
Lebanese Civil Defense and Red Cross teams transported the bodies to a nearby hospital. Security forces arrived at the scene and launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
The accident caused severe traffic congestion in the direction of Beirut, with the road temporarily closed before being gradually reopened in the early morning hours.
