Hezbollah MP: We will not sign a decision that amounts to the execution of sovereignty
MP Ali Mokdad, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, addressed the participation of the Shiite Duo in the Cabinet session and the ongoing prior communications, pointing to “the media and political intimidation that portrayed the session as pivotal or historic.”

In a radio interview, he emphasized that “what’s more important is holding crucial sessions that address existential issues such as the occupied territories, detainees, and reconstruction,” asking: “Is this session necessary for Lebanon, or for the Israeli and American enemy?” He also criticized “alignment with Israeli and American rhetoric.”

Regarding the possibility of a vote on disarming Hezbollah, Mokdad stated: “We will not sign a decision that amounts to executing sovereignty or erasing a large segment of the Lebanese population.”

He affirmed that “resolving internal crises must come from within Lebanon, away from external pressures,” stressing that “the priority today is protecting the country in the face of an existential threat.”

He added: “President Joseph Aoun is entrusted with the constitution, and he spoke about Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories and halting its aggressions before referring to the weapons issue as an internal Lebanese matter.”

As for the recent movements in the southern suburbs, Mokdad explained that they were “spontaneous actions reflecting the public’s sentiments,” denying that there’s any decision resembling what happened in 2008, which led to the events of May 7.

He concluded by saying: “Lebanon has suffered enough. It’s time for the Lebanese to sit together at one table and seek common solutions.”
