President Joseph Aoun considered that “what Israel carried out today in southern Lebanon constitutes a fully constituted crime, not only according to the provisions of international humanitarian law, which criminalizes targeting civilians, terrorizing them, and forcing them to flee their homes, but also a heinous political crime. The more Lebanon expressed openness to a peaceful negotiation approach to resolve outstanding issues with Israel, the more it intensified its aggression on Lebanese sovereignty, flaunting its disregard for UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and persisting in violating its obligations under the Armistice Understanding.”
He added: “Nearly a year has passed since the ceasefire came into effect, and during this period, Israel has spared no effort to show its rejection of any negotiated settlement between the two countries… your message has been received.”
