Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote the following on X:
“In the vicinity of a church in the village of Khiam in southern Lebanon, Israeli army forces uncovered an underground tunnel route belonging to Hezbollah.
During an operation carried out by Givati Brigade troops under the command of the 91st Division in southern Lebanon, our forces located an active underground combat site operated by Hezbollah near the church in the village.
While conducting sweeps in the area, troops exposed a tunnel entrance and an underground passage that had been constructed around the church.
This site, which Hezbollah had used for its activities, was first discovered by our forces in December 2024 and was subsequently cleared of weapons and militants.
Further searches around the church revealed three additional entrances built by Hezbollah during the ceasefire period, indicating that the site had been reactivated.
The repeated use of this location reflects a consistent pattern by Hezbollah, which continues to exploit civilians in Lebanon as human shields and systematically uses religious institutions and civilian infrastructure for military purposes.
The deliberate use of civilian religious institutions for military activities constitutes a violation of international law.”
