Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) Chief MP Michel Aoun wrapped up the weekly meeting of his parliamentary bloc with a mounting rhetoric. And while all his lawmakers and ministers left Rabieh, only MP Ibrahim Kanaan stayed waiting for his other half, Lebanese Forces official Melhem Riachi.
Meanwhile Kanaan informed Aoun that there will be no need to wait for the LF guest, who will be escorted by security officials to explore the place ahead of Geagea's visit in few days, then Aoun left the podium for a nap ahead of the visit of Shamel Roukoz, the head of the Army Commando Unit, who was scheduled to arrive in Rabieh in the evening.
Kanaan was surprised when Riachi arrived alone, prompting him to ask about the security officials.
"They will arrive in a while, I preferred to come alone," Riachi replied.
A few minutes after both officials started walking while discussing their latest visit to Bkirki, to brief the patriarch on the outcome of their efforts, a convoy arrived in Rabieh.
"Geagea has arrived," said Riachi with a smile while looking at Kanaan who was stunned.
The latter ran fast towards Geagea asking him about the surprising visit and then taking the initiative to contact media outlets in order to inform them about the "historic" event.
Even Aoun himself did not manage to hide his surprise when he saw Geagea at his residence.
Talks between the arch-foes lasted around three hours, while Kanaan was filming the "historic moment" with his phone.
"You may not like the coffee Hakim," Riachi told Geagea when the coffee was presented.
"No it tastes good," Geagea replied, rendering Riachi disappointed.
Both men did not schedule their next meeting, however their sources affirmed that yesterday's step broke the ice as the declaration of intent paper has cut all hatred, divisions and counter-bets which date back more than 30 years.
Yesterday Geagea was standing near Aoun and maybe soon the latter will take the podium in Maarab.
The declaration of intent paper erased a black era of blood, emigration, handicap and families dissociation, in hope that yesterday's scene will prevent the upcoming generation from wondering about the fate of those who paid high prices.
