Mansour to NNA: I follow the instructions of President Sleiman and resort to the Army command

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour stressed that he follows the instructions and guidelines set by the President of the Republic Michel Sleiman's, PM Najib Mikati and the council of ministers, therefore rejecting the accusations against him stating that he had described the Syrian fighter jets shelling, that targeted Lebanese territories, as "malicious rumors". Mansour considered those accusations as unfounded, stating that the NNA is the sole source through which the foreign ministry and himself get to release official statements.

Mansour told the National News Agency that he will overlook the campaign that has been waged against the ministry of foreign affairs, and against him personally, saying that he assume his diplomatic and political duties and carries them out in a way that serves Lebanon's interest.

"During my visit to Nigeria, I was asked about sending a memo to the Syrian authorities, and I replied that we'll come to it as soon as I return to Lebanon. However, my answer was altered. There is a professional and political ethics to be taken into account, especially amid the ongoing crucial phase through which the country is going, that can be regarded as the most important stage in Lebanon's contemporary history", Mansour added.

Mansour also said that the Lebanese Army command is the sole reference to which we resort, saying "If the military command says that Lebanese territories have been shelled, then it's irrefutable. Thus, we base our actions on its data and information and decide accordingly what should be done".

"When the president of the republic says that there was a violation of the country's sovereignty, then is it possible that I say the opposite? It would be an insult against the president and the foreign ministry", Mansour concluded.
