Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, affirmed in a speech after the Strong Lebanon bloc's meeting on Tuesday, "the insistence on holding parliamentary elections," noting that "the appeal we will submit is based on the amendments, not the electoral law," noting that there is absolutely no problem with timeframes.
Bassil believed "there is a flagrant violation of the executive authority on the issue of the [election] date."
He pointed out that "when the parliament was extended twice, we were the only party that challenged it, and our goal was to restore the law to its rightful place," noting that "the parliamentary majority distorted the amendments and reforms approved by the electoral law in 2017. Appeals aim to correct that, as tampering with the law and deadlines leads to tampering with the electoral process."
