President of the republic, Michel Aoun, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of modernizing the current laws in all fields, warning against tax evasion and its repercussions.
"Such practices tampers with the confidence in all the state's apparatuses," he stressed.
Aoun made these remarks during his meeting with a delegation of the newly-elected board of the Lebanese Association of Certified Public Accountants.
The President had earlier received a delegation of Kataeb party, headed by MP Sami Gemayel. Talks featured high on the current political developments on the local scene.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Gemayel indicated that he broached with the President the naturalization decree.
"This issue is a major concern for us," Gemayel said.
"We highlighted to his Excellency the necessity to rectify the mistakes in the decree, noting that he is not responsible for them," he added.
"The powers of the president of the republic must not be questioned," he maintained.
On a different note, President Aoun welcomed a delegation of Aqoura municipality, chaired by Mansour Wehbe, in presence of MP Simon Abi Ramia.
The meeting was devoted to discussing the recent land dispute between the Baalbeck village of Yamouneh and Aqoura, situated in rural Jbeil.
"The sons of Aqoura and Yammouneh are brothers; efforts will carry on until the contention is resolved," Aoun told his visitors.
