Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira at the Grand Serail, in the presence of Brazilian Ambassador to Lebanon Tarcísio Costa and an accompanying delegation. Also present were the Prime Minister's advisors, Ambassador Botros Assaker and Ziad Mikati.
During the meeting, the Brazilian minister briefed Mikati on the outcome of his tour in Saudi Arabia and Palestinian territories, emphasizing that "Brazil seeks, along with some countries, to solidify Palestine's membership in the United Nations." He praised "the significant social and economic role played by Lebanese and Brazilians of Lebanese origin in Brazil."
Acknowledging bilateral relations between Lebanon and Brazil, the Brazilian minister considered that "the presence of the Brazilian battalion in Lebanon is evidence of the strength of these relations." He called for "halting Israeli violations of international resolutions, including attacks on South Lebanon."
