Washington Weighs In on Possible U.S.-Turkish Proposal for Lebanon
U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Washington had put forward no U.S.-Turkish proposal on Lebanon and was not backing any proposals to alter the country’s political system as established by the Taif Agreement.

“The United States remains fully committed to working with Lebanon and Israel to implement the trilateral framework agreement and bring the cycle of conflict to an end once and for all,” Pigott said.

He outlined the agreement’s main pillars as disarming Hezbollah, which he described as an Iranian terrorist proxy; ensuring long-term security for both Lebanon and Israel; and establishing peaceful relations between the two countries based on mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Pigott added that Washington welcomed support from international partners in pursuing these objectives.
