One person was injured in McKinney when a plane crashed into a car driving near the Aero Country Airport while making an emergency landing, authorities said.
McKinney Fire emergency crews responded to a call of a plane crash about 12:30 p.m., the department said in a news release. The plane was attempting to make an emergency landing at the airport after taking off from Midland.
Flight logs showed the plane took off from Midland Airpark at about 11:15 a.m. Authorities did not say why the plane had to land.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a single-engine Lancair IV-P. When attempting to land at the airport, it went off the end of the runway and through the airport fence, according to the agency.
After moving through a fence, the plane traveled onto the eastbound lanes of Virginia Parkway, where it collided with a car that was driving by, the fire department said.
According to the department, emergency paramedics evaluated three people on scene: two were in the plane and one was in the car.
One person was sent to the hospital with minor injuries, according to McKinney Fire. The department said FAA investigators are headed to the scene to determine the cause of the crash.
The road is expected to be closed for several hours, and authorities advised motorists to avoid the area.
