Police Fire At Armed Man Outside Royal Palace
Swedish police opened fire on an armed man outside the Royal Palace in central Stockholm after receiving reports of a person causing a disturbance while carrying a weapon.

Police said officers responded to the scene and shot the man, who was injured and taken to hospital.

Susanna Rinaldo, a spokesperson for the Stockholm Police, told AFP that the man’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Police did not disclose what type of weapon the man was carrying, saying the security operation was still ongoing while stressing that there was no danger to the public.

Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the man approached palace guards while carrying a knife and asked them to shoot him.

In a later update, police said they had launched an investigation into “serious threats against a public official,” as well as a serious offense involving possession of a knife. No further details were provided.
