Youth and Sports Minister Nora Bayrakdarian said the Lebanese Army Marathon sends a message of confidence and continuity for Lebanon, stressing the need to make sports a national priority.
Speaking to MTV on the sidelines of the race, held under the slogan “Together, We Keep Going,” Bayrakdarian noted that a country’s commitment to sports is one of the criteria used to assess nations on the international stage.
She also announced plans to increase the budget of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, adding that the ministry would work with municipalities, particularly in remote areas, to help fund the construction of sports facilities. The initiative aims to encourage young people to remain in their communities and curb emigration.
Bayrakdarian further revealed that major initiatives in sports diplomacy would be announced soon. She said efforts were underway to launch the “Beirut Dialogue,” emphasizing that Lebanon is taking the initiative to foster dialogue among Middle Eastern countries, with an event involving European countries also expected in the near future.
