A book featuring personal notes written by the late Pope Francis over more than 30 years will be released in 94 countries starting November 24, according to the publishing houses behind the publication.
The texts, written by Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the late pontiff’s birth name, between December 20, 1992, and August 18, 2024, were compiled by Argentine Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and a close associate of Pope Francis. The book, which includes commentary and explanations by the editor, is titled “The Spiritual Diaries of Pope Francis.”
The Vatican described the book as having “exceptional value and significance” for understanding the personality of the Argentine pope, who served as head of the Catholic Church from March 13, 2013, until his death on April 21, 2025, becoming the first Latin American to lead the Church.
The book will be released simultaneously in five languages across 94 countries starting November 24. It will be published in Italian by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, in Spanish, English and Portuguese by Penguin Random House, and in French by Albin Michel.
Albin Michel CEO Gilles Haéri said: “These deeply personal pages are a continuation of Pope Francis’ autobiographical book, which was published just weeks before his death.”
