The Internal Security Forces’ General Directorate – Public Relations Division issued the following statement:
“Several news websites and social media platforms circulated a report yesterday, November 5, 2026, claiming that six robberies had taken place in downtown Beirut within 45 minutes.
The Internal Security Forces’ General Directorate wishes to clarify that the report is inaccurate and exaggerated. In fact, only one robbery was reported yesterday afternoon, in the Tarik al-Jdideh area.
In this regard, a patrol from the Beirut Investigation Unit managed to arrest two suspects caught in the act at 4 a.m. on November 5, 2026, while riding an unregistered motorcycle in the Ashrafieh area, along Pierre Gemayel Avenue. The two were allegedly carrying out a robbery in the area.
Investigations revealed that both suspects had previous records for similar offenses. They were identified as:
- H.H., born in 2002, Lebanese.
- A.D., born in 2006, Palestinian.
The following items were seized in their possession:
- A white GR motorcycle without registration or papers.
- A quantity of cannabis found inside a shoulder bag.
The two detainees were handed over to the relevant police unit for the necessary legal action. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities.
The Internal Security Forces’ General Directorate urges all media outlets and news websites to avoid rushing to publish reports before verifying their accuracy, and to refrain from exaggerating incidents in ways that could negatively affect the country’s overall situation.
It also calls on citizens not to circulate unverified reports of this kind, as doing so can cause confusion and spread fear among the public.”
